The Dream Machine (Thanks to CORONA :P)

I always had this dream to build a pc for gaming/entertainment from a very young age. Once during my summer holidays, I was at my uncle's place in Bengaluru and he decided to build a PC and he humbly included in the process as an apprentice.

I was completely fascinated by the components when I didn't even know the name of most of them. My dream to build a PC of my own was seeded at that point in time but as they say, LIFE happened to me. Learned a lot of things in transit to the point where I am now but that dream of mine was slowly growing somewhere in my subconscious.

Life was going on as usual when the news about the Coronavirus started spreading about how it affected China, Italy and Spain. We all thought that it would never reach India but like all Chinese products do, the virus too reached the subcontinent successfully and started its work. Offices were being closed and WFH was being implemented.

I am at Bengaluru working for a startup at this point in time and when I was asked to work from home and my family decides for me to stay at my uncle's place. I move my things there but still was paying rent to my flat as I thought the virus will die earlier than expected again like all Chinese products but NOOO!!! it had other plans.

A couple of months passed by, we were getting adopted to the situation and looked like Corona wanted to stay and work from home was becoming the new normal. I decided to completely vacate the place to save the rent money which inducted my plan on getting a PC.

My uncle is a TECH Geek who has a lot of tech and gizmos all around the house which kinda again made me turn to my dream of building that pc. I started planning and did a lot of research on youtube and multiple PC components website on what would suit me but was still contemplating on should I spend so much and go for it.

One night I decided that I can keep on thinking of this for days but if I force myself to take the plunge then I will be better at planning this entire thing and fulfill my dream. The next day I open Flipkart and Amazon and start comparing monitors. I find one with Acer on Flipkart which I promised myself to be the start of this journey and entered the OTP that I got from the bank and two days later I have this monitor in hand.

Exactly 4  days after that a decision was made for my sister and me to move to CBE. We come home and I setup my desk in a way that my laptops ( yeah I have two, one for work and one for personal use!!) get good internet and have real-estate on the table.

All this while I was still on youtube and few blogs and quora posts to decide on the component and the budget. It was August and my birthday came so my dad and my grandmom gives me money to buy stuff I like. I was calculating things and BHAMMM!!! I was having enough for me to build this machine I always wanted. I start searching for stores that sell PC parts as I did not want to go online to source them and found two stores BYOS and WayMark computer store. I visit them, get the quotes and found the later store was better for my need and budget. It was decided, my dream of getting the setup was gonna be true!!!

August 14 2020, I go to the store at 9 in the morning as the owner asked me to come in early if I wanted to build it myself. I was like a kid in a toy store. We arrange the components for the build and the build starts. I never had any experience in building a PC except for that first time which was more than a decade ago but was having a lot of book experience.

The store guy somehow trusted me and handed over the parts and was overseeing my work. I unbox the motherboard and CPU and made the first step of placing the CPU and locking it into the board. Completed the build including the wiring and the was helped by the store guy. I was quite nervous to switch on the machine but when I did and the LED fan inside the case lit up, I was speechless with joy and a bit of pride that I was able to fulfill my decade-old dream.

I finished up everything at the store, bought the box home on my scooter and I start setting my desk again without noticing something which was very essential for the entire thing to work.

I do all of this and at last, when I tap the switch, the LED on my monitor or the system does not turn on. I panicked but my 6th sense kicked me hard and asked to check for power. I checked and to my disappointment, it was a scheduled shut down for my locality and I had to wait for another 4 long hours. Power comes back, I switch it on and install all the stuff that was needed and loaded my first game which was Cricket 19 which as per Prithvi is a dumb game :P and WOW!! the game runs at 60FPS without lag or stutter.

I am yet to utilize the full power of this machine but as time goes will dabble with it and will share more on my 'Dream Machine'

PS. Thanks to CORONA again for making this financially possible :P
